Three Rivers Independent LivingAdvocacy

We can assist you by becoming an advocate on your behalf in helping you to accomplish goals that may be currently blocked.

We provide three kinds of advocacy:

  1. Consumer advocacy, which involves TRILC staff working with persons with disabilities to obtain necessary support services from other agency's in the community;

  2. Self-advocacy, which is teaching individuals how to become their own advocate, empowering individuals with the proper knowledge to attain what they want in life.

  3. Systems or community advocacy, which involves TRILC staff, board members and volunteers initiating activities to make changes in the community, that make it easier for all persons with disabilities to live independently.

Additionally, we offer other services depending on the consumers' different needs and the lack of availability elsewhere in the community.

TRILCPeer Counseling and Peer Support:

Three Rivers offers a unique resource of people with disabilities, who themselves have successfully established independent lives. The Peer Counselor's are people with disabilities who share experiences, provide support and serve as positive role models for other consumers. We also have a peer support group calledĀ Advocates Creating Changes for Persons with Disabilities who meet once a month. This group introduces people with disabilities to others who have disabilities. Together they share common experiences and ways to problem solve. The group works with community accessibility issues, common health issues and friendships.

This program is only available for the construction of outdoor ramps, in Sioux City. You need not own your home to be eligible for this program.
